  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the elderly.
  • 5 out of every 6 deaths related to CVD occur in the elderly.
  • Nearly 2/3 of all myocardial infarctions and 80% of all deaths related to MI occur in persons over 65 years of age.
